Troop 313 strives to help Packs and Dens transition from Webelos to Boy Scouts. We sponsor at least two events each year designed for Webelos and encourage boys to attend a troop meeting to see how we run things on a regular basis. Below are the activities that we sponsor, in order of how they fall on the calendar, starting in December of each year.
For complete information, please contact our Scoutmaster, Bob Mick, at scoutmaster @ troop313.net or 710-0986.
Webelos Skill Day
The boys of Troop 313 demonstrate Scout skills in small groups. Webelos will attend each group, rotating every 30 minutes. At each group, they will learn details on knot tying, first aid, fire building, compass and map and other Scout skills. This will meet the Arrow of Light requirement to attend “Boy Scout-oriented outdoor activity”. The event is free and we usually end it with some homemade cobbler cooked by our parents in Dutch ovens. Look for this years details in the fall.

Winter Skills Camp Out
In late January/early February, Troop 313 hosts an overnight Winter Survival “camp out” for Webelos Scouts. The event is part learning, part competition and part fun.
This event will meet the Arrow of Light requirement to “participate in a Webelos overnight camp out”. A Scoutmaster’s Conference will also be provided to the Webelo’s, fulfilling another requirement for Arrow of Light.
Meals are provided and the adults and boys will sleep in the lodge. A fun time is guaranteed.

Troop Visits
We encourage boys who are interested in the Scouting program, either Webelos or those who have not participated in Scouts before, to visit the troop before signing up. Each troop does things differently and we like to make sure that both the boy and his parents are comfortable with how we do things. Our Scoutmaster and/or Committee Chair will be available to talk with the parents and the boy will participate in the meeting as though he was part of our troop. Give us a shout before you come and we’ll make sure to roll out the “red carpet” for you.
First Year Scout Program
Once a boy joins Troop 313, he isn’t left alone. Not only is he placed in a patrol of boys his own age, but for the first year, he will work closely with an adult on rank advancement. Over the course of the first year, it is our goal to help the boys earn rank – up to First Class. Each Tuesday, they will work closely with other older boys on basic Scout skills that make up the bulk of the first three ranks. We’ve found that this build a great foundation for the rest of their Scouting careers. Once they “graduate”, they have the skills needed to advance through the remaining ranks.
