2013 (pink)

  • January/February: Winter Skills with Webelos; Chewelah Peak
  • March: Palouse Falls (photos) – This was a great campout the view was awesome. The weather was pretty cold and windy also a few sprinkles of rain here and there.  It would be worth another trip later in the year. The hike was great and had a great view.  The scree was scary to hike across though. Would have liked to hike to bottom of the falls, but the trail was closed. Thankfully Mr. Gainer was all about safety the whole campout. Overall the campout was great! Submitted by Historian Daniel.
  • April: New Scout Skills; Fishtrap Lake (photos) – Fish Trap was a great campout. It was fairly windy during the campout but was pretty warm during the day. On Saturday us older scouts taught the new scouts knots, Fire building, Orienteering, The 10 essentials, map & compass, also Totin Chip. The main highlight of the campout was about Mr.Mick and Mrs. Pegg over loading Mr. Mick’s canoe, then sinking it about a couple miles from their destination. Everything was soaked and wet, only lost one thing which had the matches in it.  Also thanks to Mitch’s “berry” great thinking on Sunday night he thought it would be a great idea for everyone around the campfire to go get an arm full of pine needles. And put them all on the fire, well the next thing you know we’re having a bound fire and ashes are flying every where. overall fish trap was a great campout.
  • May: Backpacking; Upper Priest Lake (photos) – Upper priest lake was a great campout. The only downside is that the weather was very rainy and cold, also the hike had some great scenery and okay weather. We cleaned up the trail to gyesinger camp ground for most boy’s we hiked a little under 10 miles but for Berry and Josh Davis they hiked around 15 miles. This camp ground was a very nice camp ground but the sand seemed to crawl into every nook and cranny it could find. only for a few of the partier’s turning up their music this campout was pretty peaceful. overall the only problem was the weather and upper preist lake was a great campout.
  • June: Troop Camp Out @ American Falls
  • June: Fishing Camp @ Missour River (photos) – The June camp out to Holter Dam on the Missouri river was a five day car camp out/fishing trip during the last week of June. Some of us caught as many as 14 fish while others caught none. Mr. Mick cooked for all of us, and we cooked all the fish that was caught. There were many signs around the trails that said “caution primitive trails” though some would agree most of the trails were nicer than the ones that we normally travel on. While some of us were fishing down at the bottom of the dam the siren to indicate that they were about to open the gates and flood the lake went off three times and then stopped.  It was a lot of fun and by the time we got home we were exhausted.

We started the fine day of September 20th at the parking lot of the church. At 9:30 we left on the two and a half hour drive to Lions head campground. Once there, we set up camp, ate lunch, and messed around in the lake for about thirty minutes to an hour. After that, we packed up, and left for the two mile hike to the “Slippery Slides”. When we finished the hike, we took off our shoes, and proceeded down the slides for what I would guess was a good hour or hour and a half. After that we hiked back, got in the car, and got to the campsite with about an hour of daylight left. After dinner some people (mostly adults) lit a fire and most of the kids retired to the beach until well after nightfall. At around 9:30 it started sprinkling, it kept on all through the night and until well after we left at 10. We finally got back at to the school at 12:30. Submitted by: Jackson, Troop Historian
  • October: Survival Training; Cusick Creek, WA ( Photos)
The day was October 18, the place was Cusick Creek survival school, and our goal was clearly set. Yes we were to go out into the untamed woods and build a shelter with nothing but a tarp, twine, and what ever we came across in the woods, this would be challenging indeed. The day started at the church earlier than usual so we would have as much time as possible to accomplish our given task of making shelters. After the extremely long car ride, we start building our shelters. Some building a lean to, other using just a tarp and string, we all worked to make our shelters as well done as possible. After finishing them and taking a break, we started a mile long hike to a silver mine where we got our pictures taken before heading back to camp. After we got back, we sat around the fire, snuggled up in our sleeping bags, and happily passed out. After packing up, taking down our shelters, and dousing the fire in water, we packed up, and headed home. Submitted by Jackson, Troop Historian
